Technology Business Incubator

A technology business incubator nurtures the development of technology based and knowledge driven companies helping them to survive and grow during the start up period (2-3 years) by providing an integrated package of work space, shared office services, access to specialized equipment and value added services like management assistance, business planning, access to finance, technical assistance and networking support. The main objective of the TBI is to produce successful business ventures that create jobs and wealth in their region.

Background

The need for instruments such as TBI has been recognised the world over for initiating technology led and knowledge driven enterprises. Studies also show that such mechanisms help not only in the growth of technology based new enterprises but also in improving their survival rate substantially (from 30 percent to over 70 percent). TBIs also facilitate speedy commercialisation of research outputs.

Objectives

TBIs are promoted to achieve the following objectives:

Creation of technology based new enterprises

Activities

Each TBI need to plan and undertake specified activities based on the identified thrust areas. However, the following set of activities is suggested as general guidelines:

Technology related IPR issues legal and quality assurance services

Assistance in obtaining and other clearances
