An Introduction to Venture Capital by Prof. Jay Misra, Amrita University
A talk on “An Introduction to Venture Capital” was organized on 22nd December, 2011 Thursday by Prof. Jay Misra, MBA from Harvard, Amrita University. His talk mainly focused on understanding the motivations of a Venture Capital firm. He interacted with the TBIs and gave examples about how VC funding works in Silicon Valley and India.

About the speaker: Prof. Jay Misra
Prof. Jay Misra has been teaching at Amrita University since 2006 & at present he teaches entrepreneurship at Amrita School of Business. He is also an Advisor on Business Plans & a Finance Professor at Amrita University. He was awarded an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1982. He has been a faculty member in Stanford Graduate School of Business in technology & innovation, & has lectured at Harvard Business School in Competition & Game theory. He was nominated the best teacher award at Stanford. He also received a dual B.S & M.S in industrial Engineering/Operations Research with distinction in 1978, from the University of Pittsburgh, USA
Prof. Misra was the Managing Director of Soros Fund Management, the world’s leading investment firm. Prior to that, he was Vice President, for the Capital group, one of the largest investment companies in the world. He has also held middle & senior management positions at Intel & 3Com.He has published two textbooks in Technology Management, and has supervised the writing of cases for Harvard Business School. His key interest areas are Entrepreneurship, Growth Strategies, Investment Management, and Entertainment Industry.
Prof. Misra has a strong association with ConnectONE as he acts as the key adviser for the project. He has lead the global project of creating the Online International Business Video Library with interviews of CEOs & entrepreneurs in the world.
